Though the government has introduced several schemes and policies for the welfare of labourers working in unorganised sectors, they are not implemented effectively due to lack of awareness, diffusion of information and lack of guidance, said Union Minister for Labour Mallikarjuna Kharge.

He was speaking after distributing identity cards under National Pension Scheme to the beneficiaries at a programme organised under aegis of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme in Dharmasthala on Wednesday. Only 12 lakh population in India have been benefitted with the pension schemes.

All the 34 states should effectively implement the 44 laws that are meant for unorganised sector workers. This need arises as most of the states are showing negligence towards providing security to the labourers under the law, along with the social security. Unfortunately, of the Rs 1,200 crore released under the labour fund in Karnataka, only Rs 40 crore has been utilised, he regretted.District-in-Charge Minister C T Ravi, Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade and others were present.
