Aircel recently launched ‘One Nation, One Rate’ that offers one rate for Voice, SMS and Data in home circles and on roaming on Aircel network.
The product is an industry first and does away with roaming charges and is available in Karnataka for Rs 26.
Under the plan, local/national voice calling would come at 1paisa/second in home circle as well as on roaming on Aircel network. Incoming calls while on Roaming on Aircel network will be free.
The Union Cabinet last year approved the National Telecom Policy which spoke of abolishing roaming charges.
However, operators have been against the proposal saying it would affect their revenues as nearly 10 per cent of their revenues come from roaming charges.
With Aircel lauching such initiatives, others might follow suit. However, a Vodafone spokesperson when contacted declined to comment if they would announce something similar.
