Kejriwal defaming us for votes: BJP

Last Updated 01 February 2013, 20:49 IST

Refuting Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal’s allegation that BJP has remained silent over the arbitrary increase in power tariff to take advantage from discoms at a suitable time, city BJP president Vijender Gupta on Friday said it is a wrong and misleading statement. He said AAP is trying to defame the party with eyes on votes.

“The issue of Sheila Dikshit favouring private power companies and issuing illegal directions to the DERC to increase tariff has been raised by BJP many times in the past,” said Gupta.

“Even a complaint was lodged with IP Estate police station against Dikshit and others on October 13, 2012. We wanted to file a criminal case against them,” said Gupta.

He said at least 25 demonstrations and protests were held over the government’s illegal and anti-people directions to the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission to raise power tariff.

Gupta said Dikshit has even filed a defamation case in the Delhi High Court against him for leveling charges that her government had favoured discoms for illegal gains since July, 2010.

Leader of the opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra said BJP and its MLAs have been continuously protesting inside and outside the Assembly against the enhanced water and electricity charges.
