Police organises wedding ceremony of surrendered Maoist couple

In an unprecedented move, the police not only organised the wedding of a surrendered tribal Maoist couple, but also printed their wedding invitation cards, fed guests at the wedding and gave the couple wedding presents.

Nainguda resident 'Santosh' alias Newra Kidi Kola (24) was commander of platoon number seven in Bhamragad area and deputy commander of platoon number three in the Kasansur area, while Yechli village resident 'Nirmala' alias Shanta Penta Kudyami (23) was a member of the Perimili dalam, police said.

The police department printed wedding cards and also invited people for the ceremony that was organised at Sant Manao Dayal Sabhagriha at Aheri, after both of them surrendered recently.

The marriage was solemnised in the traditional tribal way and it was attended by senior police officers including Additional Superintendent of Police Rahul Shrirame, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Suhas Bawche, Aheri's tehsildar, besides relatives of the bride and bridegroom as well as a large number of police officials and citizens.

The police department arranged meals for participants, presented utensils to the newly-wed couple and also organised a band.

This happens to be the first such event in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, ASP Shrirame appealed to the Maoists to surrender and promised them all help from the government.
