JD(S) man elected APMC president

During the last election Congress’s P M Srinivas Reddy was elected President of the APMC. Congress had then won 7 seats of the total 12 seats with JD(S) gathering the other 5 seats.

The term of Srinivas reddy came to an end three months ago. However elections could be conducted following the stay order from court.

Following the revoking of the stay order, elections were held on Wednesday.
BJP’s four nominated members declared support to Somashekhar as a result of which Somashekhar gathered 9 votes and was elected president. His opponent Ayyappa of Congress won 7 votes.

Tahsildar Mangala and deputy tahsildar Narayana Vittal conducted the election.
Speaking to the media persons after being elected, Somashekhar said that he would stress for cleanliness at the market. The roads in the APMC will be upgraded and empty space, according to the rules will be allotted to traders, he added. Demanding cooperation from the members, Somashekhar said that works aimed at developing the APMC will be taken up.
