A man has been accused of murdering a youth in broad daylight and his name is mentioned in the FIR lodged.  But the problem is that he is a senior leader of the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP).

The cops are so terrified that they have not been able to arrest the murder accused SP leader even though he has been attending meetings at party office quite regularly.
Merajuddin, the general secretary of the SP in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, and his men had allegedly shot a youth Alam a few days back. An FIR was lodged by the family naming Merajuddin and four others as prime accused in the matter.

A large number of people from the village of the deceased had even laid siege to the local police station demanding the  immediate arrest of the culprits. The senior cops had then assured the family that the culprits would be apprehended quickly.

On Saturday, Merajuddin even attended a meeting at the SP’s district office. There was also a police gunner for his protection. Though senior police officials were also present around the district SP office made no attempt to arrest Merajuddin, according to sources.

“Police are protecting Merajuddin..they are scared of him”, alleged Nafeesa Khatoon, the mother of the deceased and pradhan (village panchayat chief) of Tewra village in the district.

Earlier also there have been instances when the cops have not been able to serve summons issued against SP leaders by the courts and the latter had to admonish the police and warn of stern action.

The Allahabad High Court had expressed serious displeasure of reluctance of the officials to serve legal notice to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav on a petition challenging her election to the Lok Sabha.
