Last Updated 04 February 2013, 19:08 IST

Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, who has been supporting the UPA government at the Centre from outside, on Monday said the next Lok Sabha elections might be held next September.

Addressing a meeting of partyworkers here, Singh said the elections could be announced soon after the Budget Session. “The next Budget could be populist. It may have sops for different sections of the people as it could be the last Budget Session of this government. Elections may be announced immediately after the session.”

Singh asked the SP workers to start preparing for the elections and tell the people of the state about the developmental works being undertaken by the SP regime. “The UPA regime may try to cover its failures on different fronts by announcing incentives, but you have nothing to worry. The people are angry with the UPA,” he added.

Though Singh had talked about advancing the elections on several occasions earlier, he never mentioned a time frame.
