BJP issues whip

Last Updated 06 February 2013, 19:30 IST

The BJP, which has a wafer thin majority in the Legislative Assembly, on Wednesday, issued a whip to all its members directing them to be present in both the Houses of the legislature till the end of the ongoing budget session.

As many as 14 BJP legislators owing allegiance to former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had submitted their resignations to Speaker Bopaiah. The Speaker has accepted 12 of the 14 resignations.

BJP MLAs Vittal Katakadonda and D S Suresh, whose resignations are yet to be accepted by the Speaker, have also been issued a whip. As the whip could not be handed over to the duo, it has been pasted on their rooms in Legislators’ Home.

The move is seen as an effort by the government to ensure that finance bills related to the budget, to be presented by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on February 8, are passed without hurdles. In case of violation of the whip, then the party can seek disqualification of the members from the present assembly.
