Lovers commit suicide, visit Vaishno Devi first

A youth has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in district Udahmpur, police said on Wednesday.

Charan Das, 20, allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his house in Udhampur district on Wednesday, police said. Investigations were on to ascertain the reason behind the extreme step, they said.

In another case, a couple hailing from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at a guest house in Katra on Tuesday. The couple has been identified as Deepa, 20, and Krishan, 24.

“Basically the couple was hiding here. They had been missing from their home since January 27. They checked in a guest house here on January 30 and after paying obeisance at the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi had returned to the guest house by the evening of January 31,” SP, Katra, Mohan Lal said.

“We got the details of their parents from the boy’s mobile phone. When contacted they informed us that the couple was missing since January 27,” SP Katra said.

It was also found that the two families were closely related to each other and perhaps their parents were not happy with the love affair between the two, police said.
