Natural farming emphasised

Addressing the natural farming motivators at a training programme at a farm in Hunegall, on Friday, the seer said, several farmers, who have taken up natural farming, are doing well in contrast to those depending on fertilisers. Cow dung, cow urine and wormicomposte are in a true sense farmers friendly than the fertilisers as the chemical fertilisers take away a huge portion of the farmers earnings, rendering them indebted and also renders soil infertile.
Progressive farmer M N Krishnappa from Kalavara said that he has been following the natural farming for many years and has been growing papaya, grapes and other crops and is also getting a good harvest. Initially it is natural to get low yield for first two years. But later on the farmers are assured good yield, he added.
Native breed of earthworm is very useful when compared to the foreign breed. The foreign breed consumes cowdung, and goes inside the earth for a maximum of 2 feet. But the native breed is completely different, having 16 different features. It goes 15 to 25 ft deep inside the earth and will be active all the twentyfour hours, he suggested.
Jeevamrutha prepared out of cowdung is more beneficial and it makes the soil more fertile, in a short span of 4-5 days. This Jeevamrutha when administered on the agricultural land helps to bring out to the surface the nutrients which are deep inside the earth, which are necessary for good yields. Therefore farmers should should know the method of earthworm rearing, advised BGS farm manager Nagaraj.
Progressive farmers Raghu, Narasihma Reddy, Jayarama Reddy, agriculture expert Sri Rama Reddy were present. More than 100 farmers who are inspired by the natural farming participated in the training. Somenahalli natural farmer Ramachandra was also present.
