<p>Christian organisations have threatened to go on protest if the Union government goes ahead with plans to name the new minority university after Tipu Sultan.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Around 25 members of various Catholic associations have come together to publicly condemn the choice. <br /><br />The members, in a representation to the Governor, appealed that the university be named after Reverend Ferdinand Kittel, because of his immense contributions to Kannada literature.<br /><br />Kittel, a missonary from Germany, arrived in Mangalore late in the 19th century. His most important literary work is his creation of a Kannada-English dictionary.<br /><br /></p>
