Cong MP ransacks magistrate's bungalow

In a shocking incident, Congress MP and Minister of State for Railways Adhir Chowdhury led a mob to District Magistrate (DM) Rajiv Kumar’s bungalow at Behrampore in Murshidabad district  which doubles up as his office after the DM declined to take a memorandum and requested the Congress supporters to submit it to the additional district magistrate instead.

The incident happened on Thursday evening when some Congress supporters went to the DM to submit a memorandum demanding enquiry into the death of one of their supporters -S K Safikul who allegedly died in police custody on January 8, Magistrate Rajiv Kumar declined to take the memorandum.

According to government sources, Kumar told the supporters to submit the memorandum to the additional district magistrate instead as he was busy with election-related jobs.

Chowdhury, who was addressing a rally nearby gave Kumar 30 minutes to accept the memorandum and after the deadline was over the Murshidabad Congress strongman jumped down from the stage and started marching to Kumar’s bungalow followed by a huge crowd.

After reaching the bungalow the crowd attacked the property with lathis and stones while Choudhury stood up on the jeep and led the crowd. After 15 minutes, Kumar finally met the Congress delegation and accepted the memorandum and things calmed down.

Speaking to the reporters after the incident, Chowdhury said: “You are making a mountain
out of a molehill. I will not apologise to anyone. If there is anything wrong, the police is free to take action against my workers and me.”
