Army briefs J&K governor on border issue

 In the backdrop of recent skirmishes on Line of Control (LoC) and International border, top army commanders briefed Jammu and Kashmir governor N N Vohra about the overall situation on the border.

Official sources said General Officer Commanding (GOC)-in-Chief of Western Command, lieutenant general Sanjiv Chachra, GOC 9 Corps, lieutenant general Anil Bhalla and GOC 26 Infantry Division, major general Ashwani Kumar called on Vohra at Raj Bhavan in Jammu.

During the meeting, the senior army officers briefed the governor about the overall security situation in the respective areas of their responsibility, particularly along the International border in Jammu region and beyond. The governor discussed with lieutenant general Chachra several important issues relating to external security management in the region, they said.

An official spokesperson said the governor also discussed certain long pending land issues, particularly the relocation of the army transit camp which is thwarting the infrastructure development of the University of Jammu.
