BSY calls off padayatra

KJP leader B S Yeddyurappa on Saturday hit out at the ruling BJP for having released Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and decided to call off his Mysore-Bangalore padayatra on the issue.

Addressing reporters, he said he will now mount pressure on the Centre not to issue final notification on the Cauvery River Water Tribunal final award. He said he will soon meet both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pranab Mukherjee and submit a memorandum to them on the issue.

Yeddyurappa said there was no point in him continuing the padayatra as the government has released the water.

The Jagadish Shettar government has been in deep slumber. It has no clue how the release of water would affect people in the river basin area. People will face severe scarcity of drinking water in the summer months as there is hardly any water left in the reservoirs, he warned.

“Shettar does not have moral right to continue in office. Instead of tendering resignation, he has been taking decisions that are detrimental to people.

He has let down people of the State by silently informing the Supreme Court that the government has no objection to notifying the final award,” the KJP leader alleged.
