'Bopaiah resorting to cheap politics'

Last Updated 18 October 2009, 17:07 IST

Addressing a joint press meet here on Sunday, the leaders said that they will complain to the Governor in this regard. There was a lot of misappropriation in the purchase of Nagpur orange saplings. Government must hand over the case to Lokayukta.

They said “forcibly sending Congress Zilla Panchayat members out of Zilla Panchayat hall during ZP meeting is ‘Fascist culture.’ When Congress member Lathif was a contender for the ZP President’s post, Bopaiah had said that it will affect the Kodagu culture. Now efforts are on to elect a person who has been facing criminal charges to the post of Gonikoppal APMC President.”

“Bopaiah is also meddling with the administration of Virajpet Town Panchayat. A complaint will be given to DGP against the Kodagu police for acting in accordance with the ruling party,” they added.

They said ‘If the ruling party fails to hand over the case of misappropriation of money in the purchase of orange saplings, all the secular parties will come together and will stage protest, they warned.”

‘Act of goondaism’

“The act of goondaism is being carried out in local administration including Zilla Panchayat. The Operation Kamala has marred the democracy of Kodagu. Within a week, we will meet Governor and explain the situation. In case, if there was no response from Governor to our plea, we will come to the streets to stage protest. Congress should wake up from its deep slumber. Congress should take up the lead in this protest,” Subbaiah urged.

‘Used constitutional words’

Zilla Panchayat member V P SHashidhar said: “I have used only constitutional words in Zilla Panchayat meeting. By violating the rules, police were called in and all the Opposition members were forcibly sent out of the meeting hall,” he added.
Coffee growers Cheranda Nanda Subbaiah was present.
