Ekta calls me picture perfect, Emraan calls me voluptuous (laughs) and crew members call me mysterious. I think I am enigmatic,” says Huma Qureshi, who also thinks she is the-girl-next-door who simply wants to carve a niche in Bollywood and be successful.

In her first movie Gangs of Wasseypur she was shown as a small town girl from Dhanbad, in her second film Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana she portrayed a fun loving Punjabi girl. Now, Huma will be seen in Ek Thi Daayan opposite Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin and Konkona Sen, which is to be released in April.

“The movie is inspired from folklore. There are suspense elements and the mystery revolves around the identity of who is the real witch. The film also questions the existing steeotypes of supernatural elements, which we don’t believe in,” explains Huma refusing to reveal more about the story or her character.

Brimming with confidence, Huma is undoubtedly enjoying the glitz, glamour and limelight of the film industry and that’s why she readily took a risk with a horror flick, despite this being the initial phase of her career. “Acting itself is a risk,” she replies. “I am in a profession where every single step is a risk.  If I have to do a horror film that has a different storyline I will definitely go for it without a fear of it being a success or failure at box office,” she says.

Prior to joining films, Huma had worked in theatre and also done commercials alongside Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan. “Theatre and films are two different mediums, both technically and acting wise,” replies Huma when asked about her experience in the two fields. Will she continue with the former now? “I don’t think I will return to theatre at this phase of my career. My aim was to act in films,” she says.

What kind of roles is she looking for in the industry now? “I want to do every kind of role except that they should not be repetitive. As an actor, I have to do something new, don new garb each time.”
