<p>A police officer allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in north Kashmir’s frontier district of Kupwara on Sunday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Police said sub-inspector Ghulam Nabi Sheikh posted as station house officer with Kalamabad police station in Kupwara, was found dead inside his quarter on Sunday morning. The 55-year-old Sheikh, a native of Zaloora, Kupwara, allegedly shot himself in the temple with two bullets of his AK-47 rifle, police said.<br /><br />While police officers usually carry pistols, Sheikh had got issued an AK-47 for himself on the day of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s execution on February 9, sources said. <br /><br />Superintendent of police (SP) Handwara Aslam Chowdhary told Deccan Herald that a case has been registered and post-mortem has been conducted. “It seems accidental fire but actual cause will be known only after forensic science laboratory report comes,” he said. <br /><br />During his 30 years of service in police department, Sheikh had remained posted in highly sensitive areas of the district. Sheikh is survived by his wife, four daughters and a son.</p>
