Ang Lee hopes that the visual effects house Rhythm & Hues, which was behind the CG tiger in his Oscar nominated 'Life of Pi', will overcome bankruptcy.

Lee said he is "very sad" to hear that the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the Hollywood Reporter said.

During an appearance at the Motion Picture Sound Editors' Golden Reel Awards, Lee said, "I hope they can be saved somehow. My heart goes out to them."

R&H created Pi's photo-real CG tiger, and Lee praised their efforts, saying, "The tiger, the water – they did wonderful work, so many people, hundreds and hundreds."
