Oscar-winner director Danny Boyle, who turned down a knighthood for his role in the Olympics opening ceremony, says he did not accept the honour because the ceremony was not an individual achievement.

The 'Slumdog Millionaire' director, whose gala show was lauded for celebrating British culture beautifully, said he was very proud of the 2012 ceremony but did not want to be more important than other involved in it, the Daily Telegraph reported.

"It's (knighthood) not my cup of tea. I'm very proud. We all did the show equally and I didn't want anything to change that at all.

It worked because of all of us; it was never about one person. No one person was any more important than anyone else, and that includes me," Boyle said while accepting an award for the Olympic ceremony at the Whatsonstage.com Awards here last night.

He appeared on stage with choreographer Kendrick Sandy and dancers Jasmine Breinburg and Henrique Costa, to accept the award.
