All process related to land acquisition must be completed by January 2010.

A report on what action has been taken up and when the work will commence must be submitted to the Commission within a month. Based on the request by Rashtriya Heddari ulisi Committee, the Commission had sought details on the problems for converting four-lane of NH 17 on July 23 with PWD Chief Secretary and National Highways Chief Engineer. The department Chief Engineer had replied on August 14 that tender process can not be undertaken unless the process of land acquisition is over. As a result, the widening of the road is not possible. The Commission has directed the NH to take necessary measures on land acquisition.

Reacting to it, Save National Highways 17 Committee President Govindaraj Hegde said if no measures are taken to repair National Highway by the end of the month, then we will decide on the future course of action.

A delegation led by Karkala MLA Gopala Bhandary has already met Union Minister Veerappa Moily in New Delhi and explained the deplorable condition of NH.

In this background, National HighwaysChief Engineer Manoj Kumar from New Delhi had already visited the region and inspected the road and submitted a report to the government.
