An 18-month-old girl child, who was playing outside her house, was crushed to death when she was mowed down by a tempo at Rajendra Nagar on Tuesday evening.

Sumaiya, daughter of construction worker Seth Fareed, is the dead. Her mother, Nasreen Taj, was inside the house when the accident occurred and Sumaiya was playing with some children.

As there was a wedding at a house on the road, the tempo had come to carry people to a nearby hall. When the tempo driver, Amulraj, drove the vehicle on the reverse gear, the child came under the wheels.

Immediately, Amulraj fled  the spot. As he was fleeing, Nasreen Taj came out looking for her daughter and he told her that some vehicle had mowed down the child.

Adugodi traffic police, who collected information from the children playing with the girl, later came to know that it was Amulraj who had mowed down the girl. The police arrested him from his house in Ejipura.
