The six are Ashokan, Shamanna, Bhagya Rajashekhar Reddy and Roopa Puttaraju from Congress and Rathna Narasimha Murthy from the JD(S).
To reveal the entry of the five members the Transport Minister R Ashok had a press conference at Hotel Woodlands on Friday afternoon two hours before elections for the president and vice president.
There, he spoke about the growing popularity of the BJP government and the ‘suffocation’ in the rival camp that is driving them all to the BJP.
However, when the stage was ready for the elections, it did not take off. In the afternoon, the High Court granted stay on the elections on a petition filed some Congress leaders stating that the reservation procedure were not followed.
“At about 3.45 pm we received a message from the Department of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development that the elections should not take place because of stay granted by the High Court. We are yet to receive the copy of the High Court order staying the election,” said K S Suryanarayana Rao, the CEO of the Bangalore Urban Zilla Panchayath.
From the BJP Nagaraj and Shyam Sundar had filed nomination papers for the post of president and vice president respectively. On the other hand, Congress had fielded Rajanna and B Vijaya for the two posts. But moments after they filed their nomination papers, the stay order came to the ZP office and the election did not take off.
As the members had come there with all preparedness they returned with a great disappointment.
