Van mows down elderly man

An octogenarian man was killed on the spot when a milk van rammed into him on Chamaraja double road in the city on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Mistrimal Bhandari (80) a resident of Devamba Agrahara in the city. Death lurked him, when he was going to Sai Baba temple on Thyagaraja road.

K R Traffic police said, Mistrimal was crossing the road from Gayatri talkies side, when a van belonging to Mysore Chamarajanagar Milk Union Limited (Mymul) rammed into him at that junction. Soon after fatally knocking down the man, the van driver lost control over the steering and dashed to the median before ending up hitting a parked autorickshaw on the other side of the road. A case has been registered.

Chain snatched

A woman on foot was relieved of her gold chain worth Rs one lakh in the city on Thursday.
The victim identified as Vijayalakshmi, wife of Srinivas an employee of silk weaving factory and resident of Nimishamba layout. She was on her way to Saibaba temple at  E and F block nearby, when two youth on a two-wheeler yanked off the mangalsutra weighing 45 grams, around 11.30 am. Kuvempunagar police have registered a case.
