BSNL official convicted of corruption

S V Venkateshamurthy, a former Assistant General Manager (Equipment & Planning) in BSNL, Karnataka Circle was convicted by I S Antin, 21st Additional City Civil & Sessions (Special) Judge under sections 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

According to a press release, CBI’s Anti-corruption Branch monitored Venkateshamurthy’s income between October 01, 1991 and November 11, 2001.

Two sites

During this period, he received Rs 27,62,353 from salary and other sources, whereas he had assets worth Rs 15,75,392 including two sites and a house in Bangalore.
He had no savings for investments and purchase of properties.

He was also found to have received money from Techno Ceramics India Pvt Ltd, Kolkata and other firms. A charge sheet was filed against him in the said Court on April 22, 2003 which culminated in his conviction.
