Chenoy-ward Nefyn fancied for Sprinters' Cup

KOLKATA RACE CARD

J Fortune piloted Nefyn, an experienced horse from western India, Delhi contender Master Bullet, to be ridden by C S Jodha, and the Hyderabad-challenger Kohinoor Wish, astride S John, are the prime contenders in the 14-horse field for the 1200-metre Oasis Star Sprinters’ Cup (Grade I), which is the star attraction in the nine-event race card on Saturday, the opening day of the Invitational weekend.

The three named horses have not only done well in their home centres to earn nominations for the prized event, they have also traveled well. However, going by their home records, it is the Bezan Chenoy-trained Nefyn who appears to have a marginal edge over his main rivals.

The 3000M Stayers’ Cup bears an equally competitive look but Native Knight’s immaculate record over the staying trips gives the Narendra Lagad-trained horse a decisive edge over Unleashed, Star Marquess and Drop Of Honey. Dashrath Singh guides the Brave Act-Camarioca’s six-year-old son.
