Me, myself and nothing else

Last Updated 01 March 2013, 19:00 IST

I, Me Aur Main
Hindi (U/A) ¬¬
Cast: John Abraham, Prachi Desai, Chitrangada Singh
Director: Kapil Sharma

John Abraham is a narcissist who refuses to grow up though his testosterone levels are a hit with women.

But the mama’s boy is allergic to commitment. It takes girlfriend Chitrangada Singh three years — and a milkman — to figure out that her “Mr Mard” is no husband material. After all, he doesn’t share the milk bill or do the dishes. Reasons good enough to throw him out and buy a new lock for the house they shared.

I, Me aur Main has a surprisingly unconventional, progressive ending. Only that it takes an all-too-familiar route to reach there. So by the time that “wow” moment comes, it is too late to care. Bad acting from some reliable quarters (Raima Sen) doesn’t help either. Sen plays a snarky boss and has her nose perennially in the air.

And when she is in a super nasty mood, she makes John squat and do her saari pleats. She also makes her pleasure known — in making John realise where he belongs.

The hero continues with his self-centred ways till he meets new neighbour (Prachi Desai) who deflates his ego with her “wisepricks”.

Also joining John in his new pad is mother Zarina Wahab, the true-blue Bollywood maa who offers some fun moments.

Prachi Desai gets the best lines while Chitrangada appears repetitive, looking good and little else. John Abraham keeps asking the mirror “Who’s the best?”
Care for the truth, John?
