SSLC students may get exam results on mobile phones

If all goes well, students who take SSLC examinations will get their results directly on their cellphones from the next academic year.

The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) is planning to tie up with the Department of e-Governance to set up an integrated mobile service, which will send SSLC results directly to students as soon as it is declared.

“The process of collecting phone numbers and registration started last year and is still going on. The system will be integrated with the Sakaala,” said a source from the Examination Board.

This means that services such as revaluation of marks, issuance of duplicate marks card or provisional marks card, currently under Sakaala services, will also be integrated with mobile services.

“For example, if anyone applies for revaluation he/she will be able to track the progress of the process through their cellphones,” a source from the Department of e-Governance said. The departments concerned will also extend the service to areas not covered under Sakaala.

“Many cannot access on websites certain information related to admissions. Submission of various documents during  processes like revaluation or admission, which are available on the website, will be made available on the cellphones,” the source said.

Till now, students could either access the results on the website or by sending their details via an SMS.

The aim, however, is not only to push results automatically to students, but also to do so without any charge. A team from the e-Governance department will visit the Examination Board in the coming week, to give them a demonstration of how the system will work.

“Once they give their nod, we will put the system in place,” said Gunjan Krishnan, head of SeMT (State e-Governance Mission Team) for Karnataka, who is overseeing the project.

At present, nearly 16-17 lakh phone numbers have been collected and registered in the Examination Board database.
