The BSR Congress released its manifesto for elections to urban local bodies (ULB), in the city on Saturday.

The party has claimed that if it comes to power in the ULBs, it will initiate an exclusive scheme for the welfare of employees of ULBs, a housing scheme for slum-dwellers and an increase in the terms of ULB presidents and mayors.

The party has proposed to name the welfare scheme meant for employees of ULBs as Nagareeka Bandhu. The party will put a stop to workers getting into manholes for cleaning them. Through the Poura Shikshana programme, the employees’ children will be provided textbooks and uniforms free of cost, if the party comes to power. In addition, steps will be taken to regularise the services of contract employees.

The party will make efforts for a society free of slums. Under the Swabhimani Kuteera scheme, houses will be provided to the poor in city and town limits. Ward committees will be formed to check corruption in local body administration.

If the party comes to power, ULB presidents and mayors will have authority to approve works costing Rs 25 lakh to Rs two crore. The term of the mayor, deputy mayor, ULB president and vice president will be extended to a minimum of 20 months, the manifesto promises. The manifesto was released by party spokesman Ravindra Reshme.

Pooja to join party today

Film actor Pooja Gandhi is set to join the BSR Congress in the presence of party founder B Sriramulu at its office in the city on Sunday, reports DHNS from Bellary.
She will then campaign for party candidates in the ULB elections, in the city and other towns of the district. Gandhi, who had earlier been with the JD(S) and the KJP, has reportedly been promised a ticket by the BSR Congress for the Assembly elections.
