Bhartiya Janata Party MP Varun Gandhi was on Tuesday acquitted in the second hate speech case by a local court in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit district for want of evidence.

A district court had already acquitted him in another hate speech case pertaining to the same period last month for lack of evidence against him.

The prosecution had produced several witnesses to buttress its contention. Some local scribes too had deposed in the case.

Varun had been charged with delivering inflammatory speech during campaigning in Pilibhit on March 7, 2009.
