The mystery surrounding the brutal killing of circle officer Zia-ul-Haque in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district on Saturday deepened with fresh  revelations by postmortem examination and conflicting claims by the police, members of his family and the sacked UP minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya.

The autopsy report of the slain cop revealed that he had been killed by a solitary bullet that pierced his back. The bullet is yet to be traced making it difficult for the police to ascertain the type of gun used in the killing.

According to police sources here, the report has also revealed that Haque had been thrashed several times before being shot. Police officials however claimed that the CO was not killed by his service revolver, which has been missing, though they did not elaborate.

The sacked minister had claimed earlier that he was the first person to inform Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav about the violent clash at Walipur village in Pratapgarh on Saturday.
“I had met the chief minister and informed him about the incident. My driver Rohit Singh was also with me,” Singh had claimed.

Incidentally, Rohit Singh has been arrested after the slain cop's wife lodged an FIR naming him and four others, including Raja Bhaiya, in the murder.According to Raja Bhaiya, Haque was shot using his own service revolver, while the same weapon was also used in killing Nanhen Yadav, brother of Walipur village pradhan.
