Chakravarthy moved out of Lokayukta

After much dilly dallying, the State government transferred IPS officer Arun Chakravarthy out of Lokayukta and posted him as IGP, Forest Cell, Bangalore on Friday.

He has been replaced by P H Rane, who is of the rank of DIG. Speculation had been rife about the transfer of Chakravarthy, as he was stationed in Lokayukta, despite being promoted to the rank of IGP recently.

The post that Chakravarthy had occupied in the Lokayukta after his promotion was that of a DIG.

Even before the appointment of Bhaskar Rao as Lokayukta, the Upalokayukta-1 S B Majage had written to the government asking for a suitable replacement for Chakravarthy.

Even after three reminders, the government had not transferred Chakravarthy. Last Thursday, the Lokayukta wrote a letter to the government seeking the same and the government seemed to have made the move this time.

Sources in Lokayukta say that Chakravarthy had recently mooted a proposal to change the existing police hierarchy in the Lokayukta and suggested the inclusion of the post of IG along with the existing posts of ADGP and DIG.

At present, the top ranks of Lokayukta police wing only has the post of ADGP, which is occupied by H N Sathyanarayana Rao and the post of DIG, which will now be occupied by Rane.

In other police transfers, G Ramesh has been posted as DIG, Security.
