A motorcyclist was arrested for breaching Vice-President Hamid Ansari’s security and assaulting a traffic police sub-inspector, police said on Saturday.

Mahender Singh of east Delhi’s Khichdipur tried to enter the convoy when traffic movement was stopped for VIP movement around 1 pm near Vijay Chowk on Wednesday.

Traffic sub-inspector Ishtyak Ahmad, who was on duty at Parliament Circle, spotted Mahender on a Pulsar motorcycle trying to breach the security. Ahmad signalled him to stop but he turned towards Raisina-Rajpath crossing.

The security personnel and a police control room van chased and stopped him at Rajpath.
When Ahmad booked him under section 184 (driving dangerously) of the Motor Vehicle Act, Mahender picked a fight, ripped off Ahmad’s uniform and assaulted him.

Mahender was overpowered and police took Ahmad to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
He was discharged after first aid.

On Ahmad’s statement, police registered a case under section 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public function), 353 (assault on public servant) and 332 (causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of Indian Penal Code with Parliament police station and arrested Mahender.
