Wanted criminal held, weapons recovered

A 31-year-old criminal, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was arrested from the national capital on Friday, police said. 

Accused Ajay Kumar hails from Sonipat in Haryana. He was arrested from Mukundpur Chowk in north-west Delhi on Friday, said P Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police (north-west).

Police also recovered from his possession a stolen Hyundai Verna car, a semi-automatic pistol and five cartridges of 7.62 bore. With his arrest, a day-light murder, a carjacking and two other cases of Sonipat were solved.

He was nabbed following a tip-off that a criminal with a reward on his head and carrying illegal firearms would be coming down from Mukundpur Chowk to Azadpur, said police.

Police revealed that his brother Vijay Singh is also a gangster in Haryana with as many as 18 cases registered against him in different states. Ajay allegedly entered the crime world under his influence. Along with his associate, Ajay fired at the house of one Sunil on November 29, 2011, resulting in the death of a man named Satyawan. The two brothers were said to be involved in a feud with Sunil and his associates.

Arrests in Ghaziabad

Police claimed to have cracked a case of robbery here with the arrest of three persons from Sahibabad area of the district.

Acting on a tip off, a police team laid a trap near G G farmhouse in Shalimar Garden, station house officer Sahibabad R N Singh Yadav said, reports PTI.

Parvez Alam, Ali Mohammad and Alim opened fire on the police team after they were asked to surrender. Following an exchange of fire, the three were arrested, Yadav said. Alam is suspected to be associated with Devendra Rana, who is an accused in a loot in Delhi, Yadav added.
