A number of young and enthusiastic quiz contestants battled it out for the top prize on the first day of the annual collegiate quiz and dance competition called ‘Brains and Beat competition’ on Monday.

The second day of the event will be a dance competition with 60 colleges participating in it.
“The quiz competition was superb as the questions had a mixture of various topics,” said Arvind V, a regular quizzer from BMS College of Engineering, whose team won the top prize.

The preliminary round saw participation from nearly 100 colleges where each team had to answer 30 questions. The teams that got the most number of questions right qualified for the final round. Of the 100 colleges, eight colleges made the final cut.

They were St Joseph’s College of Arts and Science with 22 points, BMS College of Engineering, NIT Calicut and St Joseph College Postgraduate Centre, 21 points each, RV College of Engineering 19 points, IISc 18 points and IIMB and Nagarjuna PU College 17 points each. “It was a very close contest as a number of teams lost just by a point or two. All the teams were up to the mark,” said quizmaster Prof Arul Mani.

IIMB emerged second and St Joseph College (Post Graduate Centre) third.
Oxford College of Arts and Science, HSR Layout, are the venue sponsors and Turtle the fashion partners.
