A wanted criminal, who is associated with an arrested extortionist Neeraj Bawana, was apprehended in Outer Delhi’s Rohini on Monday, police said.

Rahul, a resident of outer Delhi’s Sultanpur, was nabbed outside the Rohini court when he had come to meet Neeraj Bawana, who was taken to the court for a hearing on Monday, said additional commissioner of police (crime) Ravindra Yadav.

Bawana is facing trial in a case related to making extortion calls to a Delhi Congress MLA Jaswant Rana.

The officer added that Rahul is involved in eight criminal cases and was wanted for conspiring an escape plan for an undertrial prisoner, Vikas Lagarpuria, accused in a murder case.

During interrogation, Rahul told police that he is the brother of Navin,  who is also an associate of Bawana. Navin is in jail.

Rahul added that Bawana was having an enmity with a criminal Kartar Mandothi.

So, he wanted to get his friend Lagarpuria out of Tihar jail. On March 3, Bawana asked Rahul to free Lagarpuria from the custody of Delhi Police.

The next day, Rahul with Nizam, Ravi and Fukan went to Rohini court to free Lagarpuria, when he would be produced in the court.

But police apprehended three of them and Rahul managed to flee.
