MIMS second convocation held

Students who complete courses in medicine should serve in rural areas, said deputy commissioner B N Krishnaiah here on Sunday. He was speaking at the second convocation ceremony of Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences.

Lamenting over the trend of doctors preferring to serve in foreign nations, he said: “The government is spending crores of rupees to provide facilities for students in medical colleges. But, the students do not wish to serve in government hospitals.”

A total of 101 students were presented with their convocation certificates at the ceremony. Dr Sowmya Shingal won Patel Sathanur Kalegowda and Thayamma gold medal and Dr Chikklingegowda gold medal.

She is also the top scorer in physiology, pharmacology and forensics.
