Confidence and skills come together

Nishka 2013’, the annual inter-collegiate management fest of Bishop Cotton Women's Christian College, recently saw its seventh edition being held on the college campus.

The day-long festival had seven events, with the common theme being Udaan — ‘Reach high for a new horizon’.

They eagerly contested in events like finance, business quiz, business ethics, best manager, human
resource, marketing and team building that were spread across the day.

“The response has been really good this year. What we try to do is focus on current trends and areas that are most relevant and debateable for the students. The events are also based on judgement criteria like confidence levels, in-depth knowledge of the topic, communication skills and topicality,” explains Praveen Kumar, head of department of management studies.

All in all, it proved to be a useful and fun day of learning for most.

“It was really good, especially how the events were designed and structured. But I expected more competition — the main colleges weren’t participating. There were also a few technical glitches that can be overlooked,” expresses Rumit, a student of Jain College, Jayanagar.

“The cases presented were all pertinent to what we study in our course and fests like this only add to the theoretical aspect. I’ve got to learn a lot of new things today,” he adds.

Anaab, student president of the management association of the college, gained a lot of practical knowledge just putting the fest together.

“It was interesting to conduct a fest like this despite having so many difficulties and restrictions from the management. But our coordination and hard work has turned the event into a success, where we could have enough sponsors and a good number of colleges taking part,” she says.
