For Uttar Pradesh policeman, women, who approach them with their complaints alone and after dark are indecent and should be taught a lesson.

A woman was allegedly slapped and shooed away from a police station in Barabanki district when she tried to lodge a complaint against those who had thrashed her only because she had ‘dared’ to go the police station alone and after dark.

According to reports, the woman, a resident of Kauria Majre Kanwan village, was allegedly thrashed by some villagers on Sunday afternoon following an altercation over a piece of land.

She reached Haidergarh police station around seven in the evening and asked the cops to lodge an FIR against the culprits.

Indecent

However, station in-charge R D Yadav allegedly slapped the woman and reprimanded her for coming to the station alone and after dark saying that only ‘indecent’ women did so.
“I have only tried to teach her a lesson. Now she will never go to a police station alone and after dark,” Yadav said.

He husband said he would approach senior police officers and apprise them about the incident.

Senior police officers said they will look into the matter and take action against the cop if allegations were found to be true.

The incident comes hardly a day after chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said action will be taken against cops who do not take complaints seriously.

A few days back, an station house officer (SHO)had thrown a birth day party inside a police station in Muzaffarnagar district during which the police station had virtually turned into a bar and was closed to people for the whole night.

Five cops, including the SHO R N Singh have been suspended after the incident.
UP police have drawn flak in the past for their utter disrespect to human rights and for conniving with the high and mighty and implicate the innocents.

Only recently, the cops had allegedly abandoned their senior officer, a DSP, leaving him in the lurch when the latter was surrounded by a frenzied mob in Pratapgarh district. The DSP was brutally killed by the mob.
