Procession adds colour to literary meet

Languages can be conserved and developed by mothers, says writer

Gaiety marked the sixth taluk Kannada literary meet held at Kadagadalu near here recently. The procession of literary meet chairman and writer B R Joyappa and other dignitaries along with cultural troupes was the highlight of the programme.

While immaculately dressed women carried ‘poorna kumbha kalasa, participants shouted pro-Kannada slogans. Folk troupes presenting dollu kunitha, pooja kunitha, gombe kunitha in attractive costumes added colour to the procession. Schoolchildren, auto drivers, Sthree Shakthi and SHG members participated in the procession.

Joyappa was accompanied by district in-charge minister M P Appachu Ranjan, district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president T P Ramesh, ZP member Beena Bollamma, Muneer Ahammed and Keshav Kamath.

B R Joyappa said languages can be conserved and developed by mothers. “Mothers should insist on their children to speak and write in their mother tongue, as house is the first school and mother first teacher for a child. If the mother speaks in her language, the child will develop respect and interest towards it from childhood itself.”

Immediate past president of the literary meet Nagesh Kaloor expressed concern over an increase in conversion of agriculture land for commercial purposes.
