DMK had no choice: Kanimozhi

Last Updated 19 March 2013, 20:00 IST

“The DMK had no choice; our leader was very disappointed seeing the purported final draft resolution (of the US against Sri Lanka), as what we expected was not there,” DMK patriarch’s daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi told Deccan Herald.

The DMK leadership was shattered that the Centre did nothing to avert this kind of a ‘dilution’ in the US resolution. “The India Desk at the UN did not even take a look at the amendments to the resolution suggested by Kalaignar,” said another party senior. Hundreds of party men rushed to DMK Treasurer M K Stalin’s room at the party headquarters with bouquets and shawls to “congratulate” him, a hint he played a key role in the decision. Party cadres were “relieved” the DMK had “at last come out of Congress-fold”.

“It’s good we came out; if we go with the Congress, we won’t win even a single seat in Lok Sabha polls,” another party leader said.

The DMK’s decision was endorsed by another UPA ally Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi which has one Lok Sabha MP.

Jaya slams Karunanidhi

Terming the DMK’s decision as “yet another drama” enacted by Karunanidhi, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha said there was no support from students and people of Tamil Nadu for the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation revived by the DMK. “Karunanidhi’s bid to stage another drama and to partly atone for his past lapses in the Sri Lankan Tamils issue will not wash with the people,” she said.
