Brave auto driver survives bid on life

An auto driver has shown immense will power and presence of mind even when he had throat slit by unknown miscreants in Hassan on Wednesday.

He drove his autorickshaw in the injured state itself, to a hospital, where he collapsed. Following timely intervention by the hospital staff, he has survived and has been kept back in the hospital for further treatment.

Santhosh, 29, a resident of Hunasinakere Extension in the city, had parked his vehicle at a nearby circle, on Wednesday morning anticipating passengers.

Two unidentified persons hired the auto and asked Santhosh to take them to the new KSRTC bus stand. When they reached the bus stand, the passengers asked Santhosh to drive to Channapatana Housing Board Layout. There, they took Santhosh to a remote corner, alighted and attacked Santhosh. While one caught hold of the auto driver tightly, the other slit his throat with a knife. Two youth had followed the auto on a motorbike. The foursome fled on the same bike.

Not losing heart, Santhosh drove till the hospital and availed treatment. He has said that he has no idea about the motive behind the attempt to murder. Pension Mohalla police have registered a case.
