'Khau Gali' to attract taste buds

The ‘Khau Gali,’ which literally means ‘Treat Street’ food festival, being organised at Sagar Ratna vegetarian restaurant of The Ocean Pearl hotel in Mangalore is attracting the taste buds. The two-week food festival is giving an opportunity to Mangaloreans to discover the varied flavours of the street food of the north.

‘Khau Gali’ is a lane where delicious food is served in street side stalls. All major cities of the northern part of the country have Khau Galis where local delicacies are available, but South India lacks such culture, said Ocean Pearl General Manager B N Girish speaking to media persons. “we want to give something different to the people, and hence the food festival,” he said.

The main delicacies of the food fest are Dahi Papdi Chaat, Dahi Pakodi, Raj Kachori, Dilli University Ke Bread Pakode, Kishan Chacha Ke Chole Kulche, Redi Ke Dahi Bhalle, Aloo Tikki Chole, Samose Chole, Khasta Kachori Chole, Ram Ladoo, Palak Patta Chaat and Paan Patta Chaat among others. Along with the food items, the festival offers a variety of beverages. Moreover, it also offers few games to add more fun to the enjoyment. The festival will continue till April 5.

5-star hotel

Girish said that TripAdvisor, world’s largest travel website has rated The Ocean Pearl as No 1 hotel in Mangalore for 2013 and conferred it with the ‘certificate of excellence’ for consistently earning top ratings. About the hotel’s expansion plans, he said that the hotel will be upgraded into a 5-star hotel within 12 to 15 months.

The hotel will have a world class spa, swimming pool and an ultra-modern kitchen under the skies. The land has been identified for spa and swimming pool. Once completed, it will become the first 5-star hotel of the city, he said. Meanwhile, he said that more number of food festivals will be organised in the days to come, especially in summer holidays.
