Enough of 100 crore club, Asin now wants just good roles

Last Updated 24 March 2013, 06:57 IST

Having starred in big budget movies like 'Ghajini' and 'Ready', it would seem Asin is doing fine in Bollywood but the actress says she now wants to do good, well written roles.

The 27-year-old actress is often referred to as the 'Queen of 100 crore films' as five out of her six films in her Bollywood career, including last years' hits 'Bol Bachchan' and 'Khiladi 786', are part of the elite club.

These films, often driven by their male leads, don't have much for their actresses to do when it comes to performance.

"I have taken a conscious decision about my career. This year I plan to take it little slower. The box office record and 100 crore club, big films, good collection- all that has happened.

"I should move forward and try and do more roles which give me more scope to perform. I think it is the right time in my career to take this decision since it is now that I have the freedom to choose my roles," Asin told PTI.

The actress, who began her acting career in the South Indian film industry, turned to Bollywood after establishing herself there. Her first Hindi film, 'Ghajini' opposite Aamir Khan was the remake of her breakthrough film of the same name.

Asin was singled out for acting her part brilliantly and remained in the memory despite sharing screen space with Aamir Khan. Not surprisingly, she was chosen to star alongside superstars like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.

Asin is keen to add some variety to her resume and focus on creative satisfaction.
"I don't want to do exactly female oriented roles. I do not want the whole film and story to revolve around me only. Whatever there was to prove has already been proven with these entertainers. Now I think I should try to satisfy the artist in me.
"We all want to work for creative satisfaction and that will come when you portray a very well written character because that is when you get to perform. I don't believe in being part of any race," Asin said.

The actress has just returned from a long vacation in the US with friends and family. The visit was blown out of proportion with reports of an impending marriage, which Asin later denied.

"I just laughed it off. When people don't know where you are, then they tend to speculate and it was somebody's overactive imagination going overboard. It is funny because I am single and there is no guy or fiance at all. I am not taken," Asin said.
"I am happy that a lot of people came to me and clarified without giving it much of an importance."

When asked what is keeping her busy, Asin said, "Right now I am caught up with the endorsement responsibilities because last year was all about films and promotions. With Holi and IPL coming up, I am busy with both campaigns."
