Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday expressed concern over the slow pace of developmental projects in her Lok Sabha constituency of Rae Bareli and asked officials to speed up the projects and achieve targets.

Gandhi, who chaired the meeting of the district monitoring committee in Rae Bareli, said developmental projects were running behind schedule. She also expressed concerned over the poor quality of roads that had been constructed from central funds in the district.

During the meeting, a verbal duel between Congress legislative council member Dinesh Singh and Samajwadi Party legislator Manoj Pandey ensued, allegedly after a remark by the former over chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The SP member threatened to walk out of the meeting, but was pacified by Gandhi.
Earlier, Gandhi, who arrived in Rae Bareli on a day’s visit, laid the foundation stone of an FM radio channel, a new post office and a girls’ college.

She also met a cross section of the electorate to get a first-hand assessment of their problems. People complained to her that they were not getting adequate power supply, hampering farming.
