India’s latest batting star Cheteshwar Pujara is expected to miss at least the first four matches of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League.

The right-hander sustained an injury when a James Pattinson delivery struck him on the right index finger during the course of India’s first innings. Though the Saurashtra batsman batted through the pain in both the innings, eventually guiding India through a tricky chase, the fracture will keep him out of action for three to four weeks.

Royal Challengers begin their campaign on April 4 at the M Chinnaswamy stadium against Mumbai Indians.

It may be recalled that Pujara had also missed most of the fourth edition of the IPL after fracturing his knee while fielding against Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The 24-year-old had to spend nearly a year to recuperate from the injury.

Pujara may report at NCA next week for a rehabilitation programme.

Prepararoty camp

Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers preparations will kick off here from Tuesday afternoon. A majority of their leading players, including skipper Virat Kohli, isn’t expected to attend the initial stages of the preparatory camp which will be monitored by coach Ray Jennings.

Pacemen Zaheer Khan and Jaydev Unadkat will be joining the camp on Tuesday.
The South African landed in the city last week and he even attended matches in Shimoga where Karnataka took part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament.
