District admn to 'sveep' for votes

The district administration will organise a rally under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) committee — to create awareness among the public about the importance of registration and voting — on April 2 in the city.

Similar rallies will be taken out on the same day at all taluk headquarters. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the ZP office here on Monday. SVEEP, a district level committee has been formed by the Election Commission.

Volunteers of SVEEP will make use of slogans, posters and banners to encourage people to register for electoral list.

Such programmes will be organised with the help of Anganawadi workers of the Women and Child Welfare Department in rural areas. Children of Anganawadi centres too will take out rallies to create awareness. A door-to-door campaign will also be held from April 3 to 5 with the help of volunteers. A meeting will be held with the District Industries Centre on April 4 to discuss about creating awareness among employees in industries. A decision to declare holiday on May 5, the day of election, for industries or to allow employees to vote will also be taken at the meeting.

Banners, SMSes, and loudspeakers in bus-stands and railway stations with the help of tourism department will be used for creating awareness.

The rally will start at Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple and conclude at DC’s office. As many as 300 volunteers each from Women and Child Welfare Department, Health Department and Education Department, 200 each from Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Backward Classes Welfare Department and 100 volunteers from various departments will participate.

The district administration will also conduct a slogan competition, with the help of local radio stations. The best three slogans will win prizes.
