With the announcement of the election to the Assembly, several corporators from the City are said to be vying for tickets to enter the fray. According to sources, a total of 13 corporators from BJP, Congress and JD(S) are lobbying hard to get tickets to their luck at the hustings.

The Congress corporators, bolstered by the party’s success in the civic body polls are in the forefront demanding tickets.  The corporators from the party - Mallesh (Subhash Nagar ward), Sampath Raj (DJ Halli), Abdul Rakib Zakir (Pulakeshi Nagar), M Udayashankar (Siddapura), former mayor K Chandrashekar (Hanumanth Nagar) and Byrathi Basavaraju (Hoodi) - are all ticket aspirants. “In our party we never lobby but we just pray for ticket, which I too have done,” said Chandrashekhar.

The BJP is not spared of the rush. In the vanguard of the race is Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy. A corporator from Kathriguppe ward, Murthy aspires to contest the election from Govindarajnagar constituency which has substantial Kuruba population, a strong reason for him to claim a ticket.

“We have asked our party leadership to give at least two tickets from the City to our community. We hope that our demands would be met,” said Murthy.

Chamarajpet corporator B V Ganesh too dreams to contest Assembly elections from Chamarajpet constituency. He says he has strengthened the party in the JD(S) bastion. Former mayor and Sarakki corporator S K Nataraj is also among the ticket aspirants.
The Kacharakanahalli corporator Padmanabh Reddy from Janata Dal (Secular) has wished to contest elections from Sarvagna Nagar, said the party sources.
