To avoid being caught, the accused covered his  hands and legs with pillow covers and smothered Nagamani with the pillow. Apart from valuables in the house, he had also decamped with her cellphone.

The incident came to light after her husband returned home. What came in handy for the police was call detail records (CDR)of victim’s cellphone. The accused had emerged as a last caller on the victim’s cellphone a few minutes before he killed her.

A police team led by  K R Nagar circle inspector Prasanna Kumar comprising sub-inspector Mahesh among others tracked the location of the accused and reached there on Tuesday night.

The accused was returning home after pledging the valuables with a money lender in Mysore, when his run came to an end. SP R Dileep has congratulated the police team.
