JOIN USA jilted lover allegedly stabbed a college girl to death in broad daylight and in full public view, at Balebail here on Thursday.
The incident happened when Abhishek, 24, accompanied Sonam, 20, a final year B Com student at the government degree college, after she was returning home with friends after her internal assesment exams.
Abhisek pushed his bike alongside the group, but as they approached Balebail, he left his bike and attacked Sonam, stabbing her with a knife, before stabbing himself.
Still conscious, he made her drink poison, before consuming some himself.
Stunned by the incident, several of the other students beat him up, while others summoned the police.
Sonam was rushed to JC Hospital in town for treatment, but breathed her last while being taken to a hospital in Manipal. Abhishek was treated at JC Hospital before he was transferred to Manipal for further treatment.
According to police, he had pursued Sonam romantically for the last three years, although she had always rejected his advances. Sonam is the daughter of Onappagowda of Konandur, Abhishek is the son of Jagadish from Hunchadakatte.
