Bank customer relieved of `five lakh

An unidentified man stole Rs five lakh cash after diverting the attention of a man coming out of a bank in the city on Thursday.

The incident occurred when the victim -- Lokesh, an assistant manager at S A Srinivas and Company, in Vijayanagar, in the city, was coming out of the Karnataka Bank on D Deveraj Urs Road, in the afternoon.

A man who made a sudden appearance, asked Lokesh to clean the dirt on latter’s shirt. He also offered him a bottle of water. While Lokesh began to wash the dirt, the miscreant made away with the cash bag. Lokesh’s efforts to seek the attention of passersby by raising an alarm, went in vain.

Devaraja police have registered a case.

Nurse trapped

A nurse, named Jayanthi, attached to a primary health centre at Udayagiri in the city was trapped by Lokayukta police here on Thursday. Jayanthi was caught red-handed for taking a bribe of Rs 1,000 towards a favour.

Asma, wife of Mehboob Baig of Karimnagar near Shantinagar here had been admitted for delivery at the primary health centre on March 20. After the delivery, Jayanthi had allegedly accepted a graft of Rs 500. On Thursday, during the discharge of the mother and the infant, Jayanthi demanded for an extra Rs 1,000 to issue discharge certificate and details pertaining to birth certificate.

Mehboob Baig lodged a complaint with Lokayukta police. A police team led by Inspector Gopalkrishna trapped the nurse at the PHC in the evening.
